Medicare & Compassionate Release of Super (CRS) Assessments

Last updated: May 1, 2026

Compassionate Release of Super (CRS) medical reports and certifications are administrative assessment services, not the delivery of medical treatment.

Under Medicare, rebates are only payable for services that are clinically relevant and necessary for the diagnosis, treatment, or management of a patient’s condition. The completion of CRS documentation for the Australian Taxation Office is undertaken to support a financial application process, and does not constitute treatment.

Professional obligations under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency require practitioners to ensure that services are clinically appropriate, independent, and not influenced by financial considerations.

Our position is clear:

  • CRS reports and certifications are not Medicare-eligible services
  • Medicare rebates do not apply to CRS assessments or documentation
  • All CRS-related services are privately billed

We are aware that some providers may structure consultations to enable Medicare billing in this context. Patients should be aware that this approach may not align with Medicare requirements or professional standards.

Our model is deliberately structured to ensure full compliance with Medicare rules and AHPRA obligations, and to protect both our patients and practitioners from regulatory risk.
